About Us

The Transmet Corporation was incorporated in 1979 as a subsidiary of Battelle to commercialize its patented Rapid Solidification Technology (RST) for producing solid metal products directly from a molten state in a fraction of a second.  The molten metal is pressured by pumps or air and delivered to the casting substrate.  The particles are removed from the chillblock with centrical force and prepared for shipment.

The company was reorganized as an independent, private company in 1990 and now is the worlds' largest supplier of rapidly solidified aluminum alloy particulates used in a wide variety of commercial and industrial products and processes. Transmet produces millions of pounds of particles annually.

Personnel

The Transmet technical staff, including Robert E. Maringer, Director of R&D, has over a total of 90 years of experience working with and manufacturing rapidly solidified particles. Transmet's manufacturing employees are trained in operating the development equipment, production equipment, quality equipment and all other aspects of the manufacturing process.

Melt Spinning

The chill block used in our melt spinning process is a rotating die that precisely shapes each partical.  The chill blocks are machined to form the shape and size of the particles required.  Metal flakes in a wide range of shapes (square, rectangular, flat fiber) are produced using Chill Block Melt Spinning process. We have development equipment to produce samples to satisfy your product requirements.

Spinning Cup

Metal particulates (including shot media) in a wide range of sizes are produced using our proprietary centrifugal casting process. The molten metal is fed to the forming nozzle where high pressure is generated.  Each particle is then cast in an inert gas that forms a die like cavity around each precision formed particle for cooling.  The precision parts are removed after cooling for packaging.  The high pressure rotating die is changed for manufacturing the variety of products produced.

Standard aluminum alloy particulates are teardrop shaped in the 400 to 1200 micron range. Special alloys or small quantity orders can be processed on existing equipment. Other metals cast include copper, zinc, bismuth, tin, and their alloys. Shape and size of the product can be controlled to customer specification.

Rapid solidification of aluminum and other metals and alloys by melt spinning and centrifugal casting. Processes result in uniform products with very fine or nano-scale microstructure
