Thermal Conductivity

Transmet Cast Aluminum Shot (and sometime Aluminum Flakes) are used as thermally conductive fillers in epoxies and plastics.

In most cases adding Transmet’s high purity cast aluminum shot will increase the thermal conductivity of an epoxy mold AND reduce the cost of the mold. When Transmet shot is used as a filler we typically specify RSA (YYY) 2N. The 2N means it is high purity aluminum. This is important as the high purity is a great conductor and when it is cast in our process it has a textured surface profile that allows the epoxy to grip into the surface.

Adding Transmet’s pure aluminum shot to cast epoxy molds can increase thermal conductivity as much as 450% versus unfilled resins so you can make better parts faster. Our shot is made from high purity aluminum not various recycled aluminum alloys. This purity translates into 20% increase in cycle times by using Transmet’s shot versus the competition. Not only will you realize better thermal conductivity, our tadpole particles will bond better with resins than any other aluminum filler you can use. Our pure aluminum shot is air cast with a textured surface that “grabs “the resin, resulting in less pull out during machining or drilling operations. The tadpole shape maximizes point to point contact ensuring greater thermal conductivity proving that Shape Makes a Difference ®
